FEATURED ARTIST
~ERVIN VAN MURIEL~
Contemporary Realism - Neoclassicism - Surrealism - Cubism - Expressionism
This gifted artist was born and grew up in Medellin (1975).
Ervin lived for the flesh and has known tragedy. Two of his brothers and a nephew were brutally murdered during the hard active days of Pablo Escobar and his band of sicarios. He could be bitter, but is filled with lust for life.
In Medellin, in early 2000 Ervin got one of his artworks stolen by local narcos, and he needed to use the help of a powerful band to rescue it. Luckily he got his 300 x 200 cm oil painting back because years later it would be sold for 90.000 USD to a Sotheby’s client; a known collector from Miami, owner of a motorcycle factory, that secured the artwork making his offer before it went for auction.
Escaping from street wars, Ervin emigrated to NYC in 2007. He is possibly the youngest Latin American artist to have sold 7 of his work in some of the first Sotheby’s Online Auctions.
Many find his works so compelling; It hangs in important collections throughout America and Europe.
Sotheby's: 'Ervin van Muriel returns to origins. His sensitivity is touched by the purity and lucidity of the greatest Masters: Rembrandt, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Velázquez. His work is straightforward and passionate'.
The acclaimed latin singer Maluma commissioned two works from Ervin that can be seen at Maluma’s home in Miami. One of those works is to be featured as the front cover of Architecture Digest Magazine. Ervin’s style is recognized as contemporary realism, but he is a multifaceted artist, with works revisiting Baroque, Rococo, Cubism, Surrealism, Neoclassicism, Expressionism, and even commission work exploring street art highlighted throughout his classic imprint.
Ervin enrolled in the Institute of Fine Arts of Medellin, where he studied classical music and art for two years. However, his teachers told him to leave because his natural talent and style would be damaged. His true identity as an artist developed from his personal research and investigative nature with different techniques and mixed media.
